"Right" said Fred
First up a big resonant, warm "THANK YOU!" to everyone who sent me get well wishes and advice for recovery. I even got a beautiful care package in the mail from none other than Sarah Humphreys. Not only can that girl write and sing, but she has the warmest of hearts. If you haven't heard her music, then stop reading this right now and get over to her website here.
I can now happily celebrate my nearly full recovery, just in time to head out on the road with another incredible master of the art of song, Fred Smith. We had our first performance last night to a full room of diners who sang and smiled with us. It was so good to be able to sing again, and I did so with great gut-loads of air and an impossibly cheeky grin.
Fred performed a couple of brilliant new songs, one I was instantly addicted to 'Far Away' (the perfect mix of eccentric Fred Smith style giggles and incredible insight and pathos) and a beautiful addition to his Dust of Uruzgan canon, the homecoming song "Going Home". We performed it together for the first time live on Radio National's morning program and then again later that day in the ABC World Newsroom. Check out the segment and the song below. It is such a moving tribute to those soldiers we lost in Afghanistan. It is also an ongoing reminder that those returning may yet have to face the horror of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, and similar psychological battles.
It's a beautiful song and what's more, sales from the song will go to the Mates 4 Mates charity, so download your copy here. :)
