Supporting the combined Album Launch of Miriam Lieberman and Ben Fink The “Songs and Journeys Tour” is a double header showcase of two of Sydney’s most inspiring and unique solo artists, benfink and Miriam Lieberman. After launching their latest CD’s to packed houses in Sydney, Ben and Miriam decided to join forces to do a CD launch tour of the east coast, before Miriam goes to Mali to study under world renowned Kora player Toumani Diabaté. Benfink is a singer, multi-instrumentalist, composer and producer that has been involved with the Australian independent music scene for many years, having worked with acts such as Lior, The Whitlams, Waiting for Guiness, Stiff Gins, Kaya and King Clam. In that time, he has co-written songs with Tim Freedman (“Best Work”) and Lior (“I’ll Forget You”), as well as recording his own work. His debut solo album “Continue To Breathe Normally…” has been warmly received, with the track “Lazy” receiving airtime on Triple J’s Roots’n’All show over several months, as well as gaining some feature spots on ABC 702 (Deborah Cameron, Simon Marnie). Miriam Lieberman is a singer gifted with a haunting voice, who also happens to play the kora (African harp), the balaphone and the guitar. Her music is a wonderful mix of folk melodies and African feels. Her songs tell of her journeys through Africa, Latin America, India and life itself. After two years’ study in the artist quarter of a West African shantytown, Sydney musician Miriam Lieberman wrote and recorded her latest album “Wakeli” in Guinea, West Africa. “Wakeli” is a unique mix of original Australian acoustic roots with traditional West African rhythms and instruments. The album’s title, “Wakeli”, means courage in the African language of Susu. Miriam’s previous band and album “Naked Without My Cello” toured to festivals and venues around Australia. She has performed live on several radio shows including ABC 702 (Simon Marnie) and Radio National (Phillip Adams). |
